The Many Benefits of Detox Water

The purpose of detoxing is to help rid the body of toxins that are absorbed. Too much toxic intake may cause bloating, headaches, constipation, fatigue, nausea, skin problems, bad breath and decreased energy levels. Detox water is water infused with flavors of different fruits and/or veggies. It is not the same as ‘juicing’ and can be easily done at home as many people are adding it into their health and fitness routine. Here are some health benefits in adding detox waters into your daily routine.

Benefits

  • Aids in weight loss: By increasing your water intake your metabolism rate will increase, therefore burning more calories. Also, drinking a lot of water can reduce your appetite, especially when consuming a bottle right before a meal. 


  • Reduces inflammation: detoxing the body helps improve vital organ health. When these organs, such as the liver and the kidneys, are cleansed, it reduces the “free radicals” in the body that can lead to body inflammation. This also includes inflammation in our skin. Detox waters help reduce redness and acne. 


  • Increase energy levels and boost overall mood: dehydration can cause us to feel fatigued and sluggish. By increasing our water intake, we are cleansing both our bodies and our minds. 


  • Improved digestion: intaking water and healthy nutrients can help food smoothly and easily pass through the digestive system. It also helps with cramps, bloating, and constipation. 


Fruits & Veggies 

  • Lemon/lime: contains a good source of vitamin C which helps boost our immune system and our digestive system. Lemon/lime is also a great aid in weight loss. “Research has shown that polyphenol antioxidants found in lemons significantly reduces weight gain in mice that are overfed in order to induce obesity.” 

  • Mint: it gives your water a cool, refreshing flavor. Mint has anti-inflammatory properties which helps the skin stay clear and glowing. It also soothes stomach pains because of its menthol components. 

  • Berries: Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries contain beneficial antioxidants to help the body and the skin. It also helps to boost metabolism which can aid in weight loss. 

  • Cucumber: are rich in antioxidants including calcium, magnesium, potassium, and vitamin A, K, and B. Vitamin B helps with acne and keeps the skin clear and fresh. The potassium found in cucumbers can help lower blood pressure and build strong bones and muscles. 

  • Oranges: helps to boost the immune system because it is rich in vitamin C. It also helps improve the digestive tract. “Oranges have a wealth of compounds including liminoids and carotenoids which combat cancers of the lungs, breast, mouth, skin and colon.”

  • Kiwi: adding kiwi to your water can help regulate blood-sugar levels. It is also a great aid in weight loss because it helps reduce appetite and increases metabolism. Drinking kiwi water in the morning will give you a boost of energy and increase your mood levels.

The best way to get started is to first narrow down why you want to incorporate drinking detox water into your daily routine. Is it because you want to lose weight? Do you get sick often and need to help boost your immune system? Is it to help get clear and fresh skin? Or all of the above!
