New York City Travel Blog: Entertainment Edition
It’s the city that never sleeps. There are so many things to do in NYC, from museums, to parks, to luxurious shopping adventures, NYC really has it all. You can go to the classics, the MoMa (museum of modern art) or the Met (the metropolitan museum of art) an amazing place for art lovers, history lovers, or to take some photos for your IG.
Or, if that doesn’t turn you on and you want a more fun, adventurous experience, there are quite a few museums that I can recommend.
The first is the Museum of Sex, located on the east side. No, this museum is not suitable for young children, it really is all about sex. You first walk into their gift shop which has a ton of erotic toys, candy, books, you name it. The museum itself changes their exibits throughout the year (I believe right now they have a circus theme happening). My favorite part was the animal sex exhibit, which was really quite fascinating. At the end of the tour, they have a bar/lounge area where you can hangout and order a drink.
A 10/10 recommended experience. Tickets cost around $40 depending on the day and time of the year. But, definitely well worth it!
Next is SPYSCAPE, an espionage museum which includes an interesting history lesson and an interactive experience to see how well of a spy you could be (I personally got “hacker”, which is quite accurate). This place is kid and adult friendly!
10/10 recommend! The location is easy to get to and it’s priced at $39 for adults. Expect to be in there for at least an hour and a half.
Two fun “selfie” museums to check out are the Museum of Ice Cream and the Color Factory. Both are around the same price $49 for adults. There are different style rooms for each that make for a perfect selfie backdrop to spruce up your feed. Each museum also offers free treats in certain rooms!
Color Factory 10/10, Museum of Ice Cream 8/10 (not as much to do).
“Yer a wizard Harry.” For my fellow Harry Potter lovers, as of June of 2021, there is a new Harry Potter exibit located on Broadway! It is much more than just a regular “shopping experience”. There are 15 different themed areas that include facts about the series and interactive elements.
9/10, obviously it’s in NYC so prices are $$$ for some merch, but if you are a dedicated Potter fan, you might find it worth it. There is no fee to get in, so it is definitely worth a stop by.
A fairly new, must-see, tourist attraction in the heart of NYC is The Summit One Vanderbilt. It is one of the newest skyscrapers / landmarks to join the NYC skyline and provides panoramic views of the city during the day time, sunset, and night time.
Prices range from $40 - $100 for certain packages. I HIGHLY recommend just buying the general admission ticket as the ‘Ascent’ package is an additional $20 for a 3-minute elevator ride that shows you basically the same view. You go through about 4 different rooms with a bar / rooftop area once you reach the top. This experience makes for a great date night, even if that’s just taking yourself out! The night time views were amazing, but I can imagine it must be beautiful at sunset, too (note: you will pay an additional fee for choosing sunset time). 9/10 recommended.
