My KETO Alcoholic Drink Recipes
What if I told you that you can stay on your diet AND continue to drink with your friends on the weekends? And no I am not talking about a white claw, which yes, is a healthier choice at 100 calories a can and low carbs, but we all know it is hard to have ONLY one can.
When I started the keto diet, I researched alternative drink choices because I didn’t want to blow my carb intake for one or two drinks when I go out with friends and family. First, I’ll tell you some common drink choices and their health statistics:
Sex on the Beach = 170 calories and 11.7 grams of carbs (5 fl oz)
Apple martini = 235 calories and 11.6 grams of carbs (5 fl oz)
Margarita on the rocks = 274 calories and 36 grams of carbs (8 fl oz)
Piña Colada = 245 calories and 32 grams of carbs (4.5 fl oz)
Hennessy and Coke = 255 calories and 36 grams of carbs (12 fl oz)
Of course these measurements will vary every time, but these are some approximates. The sugary mixers in most alcoholic beverages is what tends to drive the calorie and carb count up. I then started to play around with some mixers and found some key recipes that are the perfect solution for a low calorie/low carb option.
This is by far my favorite keto drink called the Blue Mar. Depending on how much vodka you prefer, will determine the total amount of calories in your drink. A normal serving is 1.5 ounces, which is 96 calories. But, the key to this is the calories from the vodka is the ONLY calories you are intaking. For a mixer I use sugar free, 0 calorie blue raspberry powerade (I have tried the other flavor powerades with this recipe but the blue one is the best) and a splash of sugar free, 0 calorie sprite. This recipe is super easy and much more healthier than other drinks.
To make this drink a tad sweeter, you can garnish with a mango slice.
Next, this is a very simple, quick recipe that I use if I want to have something different than the Blue Mar drink. A combination of raspberry vodka, which for one shot is 69 calories, and sugar free ginger ale makes for an awesome, all year round drink. Personally, I do not notice a major difference between regular and sugar free so it is easy for me to switch all my products to sugar free. Also, this drink gives you that sugary taste with the raspberry vodka but there is actually no additional sugars added and it is about the same calorie count as the Blue Mar drink.
Lastly, a summertime favorite of mine. This is a frozen drink that consists of 2 ounces of vodka (130 calories), fresh strawberries and pineapples, and a sugar free fruit punch crystal light packet blended together. Yes, this drink has a higher calorie count but that is because you will be adding more vodka and, since it is a frozen drink, ice will be added.
Garnish this drink with a strawberry and a pineapple.
As you may have noticed, all these drinks contained vodka, which is one of the spirits with the lowest calorie count. When making these drinks, remember, because these drinks do not contain sugar, there is more added salt, meaning, you will become dehydrated faster so don’t forget to drink water consistently, drink responsibly, and enjoy!
