Inside My Skincare Routine

The first major question to ask is, what is your skin type? Dry, oily, or a combination of the two. I have combination skin, so it has always been hard finding products that suit me and won’t trigger a breakout. I’ve also learned over the years that my skin is extremely sensitive to many different products. Sometimes I find a product that works so well for me, but then over time it just stops working. It’s like a never ending game of guessing whether I’ll wake up with clear skin or a breakout.

This is what I found works the best for me! I am going to share with you some staple products that I swear by and they haven’t failed me yet.

My first step, morning and night, is using Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water with a fresh cotton pad. It removes any leftover makeup and oils from the day or during your nights sleep and it is not irritating or drying (like some makeup removing wipes can be), making it great for people with sensitive skin! I travel with this everywhere.

Next, I use a hydrating facial cleanser by CeraVe which also helps to remove any leftover makeup or dirt stuck in your pores. It is a gentle face wash with ingredients like ceramides which reinforce the barrier and help the skin lock in moisture, along with hyaluronic acid that attracts hydration to the skin’s surface. This product is great for my skin type and does not cause breakouts. It’s also recommended for all skin types.

For a toner, I use The Ordinary glycolic acid toning solution. This toner helps to exfoliate the skin after the impurities from dirt and grime have been removed. It also helps prepare the skin to absorb the mositurizer and nutrients from your next steps in your routine. I also make sure I apply toner on my neck and work my way up.

My all time favorite exfoliate is Paula’s Choice thanks to TikTok! It’s important to exfoliate once a week to help keep your skin smooth by removing dead skin cells and minimizing scars. Not only does it remove dead skin cells, but it also helps to unclog our pores, prevent acne, and aids our other products to penetrate deeper into the skin. Exfoliating is part of my Sunday self-care routine.

Next, my favorite face mask that I use is a combination of Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay and a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar (as previously mentioned in my ACV article). This can also be done by mixing water instead of ACV. This face mask should be left on for 10-15 minutes max. If left on too long, it will dry out your skin. Plan on incorporating this face mask into your routine every 2-3 weeks.

For an eye cream, I use Origins Ginzing. I put this on morning and night and it helps to ‘depuff’ the bags under my eyes. You can also put on right before doing your makeup because it helps to cover fine lines. It also doesn’t need to be caked on. A little goes a long way.

Before we add our final products, we need to moisturize! CeraVe Moisturizing Cream is my go-to daily moisturizer. They also have a morning cream that contains sunscreen, which is an added bonus! I also use this cream as an overnight spot treatment if I have breakout and it helps to reduce redness and erase scars in a short period of time.

Lastly is our serums. I use The Ordinary’s hyaluronic acid serum to help alleviate dry skin, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and it speeds up wound healing and acne scarring. All you need is a few drops patted into your skin to leave on overnight. You can also use a Vitamin C serum, which helps reduce redness and inflammation in the skin.

I am always interested in trying new products and seeing what works best for my skin. Remember, what works for me, may not work for you, and vice versa.
