Dream Empathy

As heard on Muse by Mariah: The Podcast

The world of dreams is one of my favorite topics to discuss. To some of us, dreaming is just something that happens every night or once in awhile, just a part of life. To others, dreams have a deeper meaning. Messages and signs are sent to us through our dreams from a higher being, our angel guides, or whoever we feel is up there. As discussed on my Dream Empathy episode on Muse by Mariah: The Podcast, lets dive deeper into the world of dreams.

So, what exactly is a dream? A dream is images or stories put together in our minds during certain stages of our sleep. These dreams can evoke emotions, sensations, or ideas as we transition between the physical and the dream world. The study of dreams is called oneirology. In a study done, it is shown that dreams and memories are connected. Sleeping is an integral part of retaining our memories. Dreaming is included in those memories. However, a lot of studies that are done on the brain for dreams do not discuss the meanings of our dreams, just the pyschological aspect. They do not ask the questions of why. Why are we having this dream? Is there potentially a deeper meaning that we might be overlooking? Disclaimer: I am not a dream expert, but I have experience with feeling a deeper connection to the dream world.

Being a dream empath means you consistently have dreams that are so real and vivid and, oftentimes, there are messages shown either through symbols, animals, colors, or phyiscal people / words. You are able to recall these dreams easily when you wake and know that there is a reasoning behind it. “Dreams are such a powerful form of intuition because they bypass the ego and the linear mind to offer clear intuitive information.”

Since I was a little girl, around 9 – 10, I can always remember having these clear dreams. At the time I didn’t know the meanings behind them or even think twice about some of the dreams I had. I remember, as I got older, I would talk to my mom about certain things I dreamed and she would tell me there are meanings behind the messages I am seeing in the dream world. I knew that my mother and grandmother also had a powerful intuition. We are all deeply connected to the dream world and our higher beings. I then became fascinated by the dream world and if there was something I needed clarity on in my life, I would start asking for the answers in my dreams. Most of the messages I see are shown to me through different animals; Snakes, stingrays, vultures, all these exquisite animals that I can remember. I’ve also received messages through symbols. Teeth dreams (the meanings behind teeth dreams are so crazy. If you have ever had one and remember the details, look up its meaning on Google) and other random objects such as broken eggs.

It’s hard to look past some of the things I’ve seen and think “oh that’s just a dream”, instead I am always trying to find a deeper meaning to it. I have become closer with the dream world in recent years and genuinely feel like my higher being is directing me onto the correct path by answering my questions and doubts in the dream world. The more open I am to receiving the messages in my dreams, the more they are shown to me. One of the things recommended for people who want to build their connection to this other realm is keeping a dream journal or a dream log. The period of time between sleeping and wake is called hypnagogia. This is the time you remember your dreams most clearly and when you should note everything that happened of which you can remember, even the smallest detail. Once you’re fully awake, you can try to google the meaning of the dream. So, if you saw a grasshopper on your arm, try to find the meaning online and note it in your dream journal as well. See if you can find a connection with this dream to your physical world.

Don’t get me wrong, I can also recall pointless dreams that I’ve had which made no sense. One time, I had a dream that I was having a family BBQ and then all of a sudden it was the American Revolution *insert crying emoji*. If there was a deeper meaning behind that then it completely went over my head.

So, the next time you sleep, keep repeating a question you want to know the answer to. See if you can remember anything that you dreamed and write it down (I keep my dream journal in my notes on my phone, it makes it easier). Continue to build upon this connection by being consistent and open to anything you may receive.
