Your Personality Type is…..

In High School, I took this class called “Human Relations” that discussed multiple different topics in life. One of those topics, which I was unfamiliar with at the time, was discussing the different types of personalities, specifically type A, B, or C. I took this class in 2015 and now they have added a type D personality as well! So...what exactly does having a type A personality mean? Or type B? Each personality has distinct characteristics, both pros and cons, as to what exactly classifies each type and I am going to discuss each personality and I want you to try and see which group you feel like you belong to.

Type A: My fellow type A personalities, if you know me, you’ll definitely agree (after reading this) that I am 100% a type A personality.

  • We are known to be overly competitive in absolutely ANYTHING that we do, which also makes us stress way more than the other personalities.

  • Another nickname for us is “Workaholics”. We tend to live more by the motto “we live to work” instead of “we work to live”, which can be looked at as both a pro and a con. On the bright side, we have big ambitions, big goals, and are determined to achieve them. On the not so bright side, we over analyze everything, causing us to stress tf out all the time.

  • The clock is always ticking so when we’re sitting at home doing nothing, it feels strange because we always feel like we have to be doing something. We are very impatient human beings let me tell you….

  • We tend to compare our self-worth to the number of achievements we have (not a good trait). We are perfectionists in our everyday lives and we feel unsettled if we start a project and don’t complete it. This causes us to try and manage multiple things at once without giving ourselves a break.

  • At times, we can also come off as aggressive or sensitive because of the way we react to certain situations. In my High School class, I was used for a demonstration on how a type A personality would react to a hostile environment. I was told to just stand still and not do anything, my professor had then purposely walked right into me and my immediate reaction was clenched fists, which I did involuntarily.

Type B: Ahhh type B personalities, the chill, zen dudes, often unphased with the dramas life throws at them. Let’s discuss more:

  • Patience is a virtue and type B personalities completely live by this. Completely opposite of type A, type B has a lot of patience which helps them keep low-levels of stress during stressful times.

  • They have a “laid-back”, “relaxed”, and “calm” attitude basically 24/7. The con to this is they easily procrastinate.

  • Instead of being goal-oriented like type A, type B is relationship-oriented. They get along with almost everybody they meet and they look at any relationship, work, family, significant other, as long-term.

  • They are flexible in life and their actions aren’t based on time. They don’t stress about working with a schedule and aren’t phased about a continuous ticking clock.

  • They are creative thinkers and are very detail-oriented. They like to dive deeper into certain projects to see and understand all the different aspects.

Type C: the peace-makers who try to avoid drama at all times, but this has its cons to it too.

  • Known to be the “harmonizers”. They don’t like conflict or drama and try to stay out of it.

  • Introverts. They stay to themselves most of the time unless they NEED to socialize with other people (although they very much prefer not to). If you’re dealing with someone with a type C personality, it’s going to take them a while to fully open up to you.

  • They are perfectionists to say the least. Very detail-oriented in all the tasks they do which is why they prefer to work in an environment that is controlled and stable.

  • The method they use to cope is by “emotional repression” meaning they tend to hide their emotions, especially negative ones. This is a con for type C’s because they let these negative emotions build and build until they can’t anymore. Even with positive emotions, they aren’t good at understanding them or being open with how they feel.

Type D: there’s a lot to say about type D’s, but let's just say it isn’t the best category to fall under (and I personally know a few).

  • The “Negative Nelly’s”. They can never find the bright side to anything. Almost all conversation’s this personality has revolves around negativity.

  • They have this constant fear of life and worry and rejection. These people ALWAYS think about the worst case scenario in anything they do and they find it hard to find any good case scenarios.

  • They are the complete opposite of your typical “socialite”. They loathe socializing and would rather not be near anybody period.

  • People linked with type D personalities have been said to show more signs of anxiety and depression and are known to be the “distressed” ones out of the other personalities.

Of course these personality types are NOT set in stone and there are always ways to help or try to rid some of the toxic traits we may possess. My biggest issue is, with being a type A personality, that I’ve been trying to deal with is stressing. I stress out over the littlest things. If I’m 1 minute late somewhere, stress. If something is not done the way I want it to be done, stress. I am extremely hard on myself and I’ve been trying to tell myself to just relax.

Now, after reading this you probably have somewhat of an idea of what category you may fall under, but if you don’t, here is a test that shows you what personality type you have.

Because type D has recently been added, I wasn’t able to find a test online including that personality, but it shouldn’t be difficult to put someone in that category. The difficult part may be accepting type D as your personality. I wasn’t surprised about my results.
