My Guacamole Recipe

Total Time: 5 minutes

Whether it’s in the morning with eggs, on your burger, or as a quick mid-day snack, everyone needs a tasty and easy guacamole recipe. There are many different recipes out there and most of them have a majority of the same ingredients besides maybe one or two. The ingredients you will need for my recipe are the following:

  • A RIPE avocado (obviously): I learned this easy hack to tell if your avocado is ready and ripe. Rip off the stem at the top of the avocado, if it is green, it is ripe and ready to be eaten, but if it’s brown, it is overripe.

  • Tomatoes: this is one of the ingredients that is optional. I LOVE tomatoes and I find that they add flavor to the guacamole.

  • Cilantro: Because cilantro doesn’t dry well, it is always best to use when fresh.

  • Red Onion: This will add mild flavor to the guacamole. I don’t recommend using white onion because it has a ‘sharper’ taste in comparison to red.

  • Jalapeño Pepper: this is another optional ingredient depending on if you want to add a little spice to your guacamole.

  • Garlic: a not-so-common ingredient that I add to my guacamole for taste.

  • Fresh Lime: NOT bottled lime juice (I ran out of limes one time and tried to use bottled lime juice, it has a completely different taste).

  • Salt: it doesn’t matter the preference. Sea salt, Himalaya salt, or regular salt will work just fine.

Instructions

1. Mash your avocado(s): a great household item to have is called a “pilon” which is a wood mortar with a wooden pestle used to mash up ingredients. It is very common in hispanic households, but a fork will work too.

2. Dice up your remaining ingredients. I usually use 1-2 cloves of garlic and half of a jalapeño pepper, but if you want to have a spicer guac than use the full pepper. Cilantro adds great taste but if you’re not a huge fan of it, you can only use a couple leaves.

3. Mix together all your ingredients and season: I prefer to have a more ‘tangy’ flavored guac so I add a full, freshly squeezed lime. I then add salt until I get to my desired taste. I’ve also tried some guacamole recipes that have no added salt, but the taste is still there so it is not necessarily needed (this could pertain to certain diets or health related issues).

4. Enjoy! Quick and easy.

Guacamole is most commonly served with chips! If you are looking for a healthy, but tasty chip alternative, I have the solution for you.

Cut low-carb tortilla’s and put in an air fryer at 350º for 4-6 minutes and BOOM healthy chips to go with your guac! (I also use these to make low-carb quesadillas, you don’t even taste the difference).
